AH0015 - Apple Remote iPhone Application PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 July 2008

We've updated the iPhone to V2.0 and installed a few apps to play with.  Of most interest to Home Automators will be the new free Apple "Remote" application.  Here's a quick two minute video tour showing just how quick and easy it is to install and use...

iTunes | Miro | Zune | RSS | Right Click to Download (2 Minutes - 27.1MB)

With the addition of a few Apple Airports you could soon be streaming music to rooms all around your home and using your iPhone or iPod Touch to control it wirelessly form anywhere within your Wi-Fi range - see  Whole House Audio Touchscreen Setup on a Budget.  Although the video shows a Mac the remote controls iTunes on Windows in just the same way too.

I've also found that the remote will wake up your computer if it is off. You just need to pick a library from a computer that is off. So it makes for a simple wake-on-lan app too.
Pity that once the PC has started up, itunes doesn't open, but that could just be a PC thing.

I was pleasantly surprised by this too. Just add iTunes.exe onto your PC Startup list, then it will start as the PC completes its Windows boot
