We've always been fascinated by the energy harvesting wireless sensor technology from EnOcean. The bidirectional self-powered 'green' devices do away with the need for cable in your walls for either power or bus signals. Now the EnOcean Alliance have announced that their devices are now "fully interoperable with TCP/IP". Siting the growing customer demand to manage and monitor building and home automation controls over IP networks, the EnOcean Alliance has added IP technology to their products. Described as the first ever solar powered roller blind system, the makers say it only requires around 2 hours per day of 'average sunlight' to trickle charge its batteries and keep it working. Freedom is a new open source home automation project on Google code. Written in Java it runs on Windows, Linux, Mac and Solaris and it's distributed under GPL2 license. It supports X10 devices, Android, Arduino, BeagleBoard and more, and can be deployed on a network of cheap peer-to-peer hardware. It is scalable and provides automatic load balancing across nodes on the network. Schneider Electric, the UK distributors of Clipsal C-Bus products, tell us they are hoping to launch the new C-Touch C-5000CT2 Spectrum Touchscreen next month. The unit is available in wall mounted or desktop versions and includes infrared remote control capability plus proximity sensing for control or screen wake up. The new display supports 65k colours and shares fascias with the black and white version. An RS232 port for third party integration and a front mounted USB programming port are also included. We all know how great an iPad looks mounted on a wall and it's a peach of a home automation touchscreen controller. We've covered plenty of wall mounting systems already but most have brought groans of pain when we reached the price part of the PR.
