The Audio Light Bulb

Let there be light - and sound.  Here's a neat way to easily retro-fit a concealed speaker for music or perhaps voice announcements in your home automation set-up.  The Audio Light Bulb fits into, and is powered by, a lamp socket.  The built in 10 watt wireless speaker provides the sound while LEDs produce replacement light equivalent to around a 60w incandescent.  The $299 unit is due to start shipping next month...

"The Audio Light Bulb - This is the wireless, illuminated speaker that installs as easily as a light bulb. It fits unobtrusively within a recessed can light receptacle, replacing a standard light bulb, for discreet audio and lighting. Providing crisp audio, the full-range, 10-watt speaker receives interference-free wireless audio signals from up to 50' away from its transmitter, which docks with any iPod/iPhone equipped with a 30-pin connector. The speaker has integrated LEDs that provide bright light similar to a 60-watt light bulb. The included remote controls volume, play/pause, and light dimming to 50% of brightness. Transmitter has an auxiliary port for connecting other audio inputs. Includes two speakers; supports a total of eight speakers. Speaker 3 1/2" Diam. x 6" H. (16 oz.); Transmitter 3 1/2" L x 3 1/2" W x 1/2" H. (3 1/4 oz.)"

what is 'clearance' about 450 UKP for a 299USD item?

I just came across this, thanks for posting. We don't have much room in our place for huge speakers and the fact it's screw-in is ideal too, so no trailing wires.

I think its a good price personally.

$300 is reasonable, £450 is absolutely ridiculous.

I wonder if the American one is auto switching or 110v only? If it is auto switching (unlikely), it would be worth importing.
