iodd 2501 virtual rom

Like us, many of you have no doubt gathered up a collection of tools and software over the years to help you set up your computers.  We've been hearing great things about this little device from the guys in our IRC channel and its something you might like to add to your kit.  The iodd 2501 is a caddy for a 2.5" SATA hard drive - but with a difference.  Connecting via USB or eSATA the unit is automatically detected as both a Mass Storage Device and an External Optical Drive.

This allows you to add all your favourite OS's as ISO files and using it's built in OLED display choose the one you want to install. You'll never have to hunt around for an install CD again or write a disc.  It's also easy to boot and install to devices like netbooks which have no optical drive, plus you can use it as a regular drive caddy for backups etc too.

"The i-odd 2.5" SATA HDD Enclosure is a replacement for your portable CD/DVD player and discs. Install your choice of 2.5" SATA Hard Drive (Not Included), load all of your ISO files onto the hard drive, choose the ISO file you wish to use via the built-in file select switch and LED display and you can install your choice of OS directly from the hard drive to your system. The enclosure connects via USB or eSATA and is automatically detected as both a Mass Storage Device and an External Optical Drive."

I've got one of these, and it's saved me a lot of time that would have been spent waiting for discs to burn (not to mention having to buy and store them). I always tended to lose my discs and have to burn another copy too smilies/sad.gif
