Garage Door DMCA Case Dismissed PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 17 November 2003

The Register is reporting that a case brought by the Chamberlain Group against a manufacturer of a replacement remote for their garage door opener has been thrown out of court. They claimed that Skylink Technologies Inc breached the anti circumvention provisions of the DCMA in creating their Model 39 remote control.

Luckily the judge saw sense and ruled that the DMCA couldn't be used in an anti-competative fashion like this.

This is good news for HA'ers as it could have spelt trouble for all in one learning remotes, and devices attached to PC's such as the RedRat.
