The HomeVision is now up and running! It is getting me up in the morning, controlling my AV system, reminding me when my favourite TV programs are on and sending the house to sleep at night. Here's a description of what I've come up with so far... |

I received my new (second) HomeVision yesterday. Craig has now received the old unit back and after running his diagnostics apparently "The power supply reset chip had failed". I really must commend Craig for his excellent support and for the speed with which he shipped the new unit to me. Thanks Craig... |

The HomeVision unit I received this week developed a fault after running for approximately 10 minutes. I phoned Craig at CSI and left a message on his answering machine. He phoned me back later that night and spent over half an hour on the phone to me from Florida (at his expense) trying to sort out the problem... |

After contacting Custom Solutions Inc in Florida I discovered they were just finalising a "UK beta" version of their HomeVision controller. It's a beta because it hasn't been tested here in the UK yet… |

A short time ago I installed a WinTV/PCI card from Hauppauge. This week I finally got round to cabling the UHF into the computer room so now as well as getting TV in a window on my monitor I can see the baby's room via the CotCam... |

I went to Maplins at the weekend and got an American Line Socket (Maplins part no HL19V £0.99) so I can connect my TW523 to the mains safely. |

OK...my TW523 two way power line interface arrived in the post this morning. This now allows me to connect my PC to the mains via the serial port (this sounds very dodgy!). Reading the blurb I am assured that the unit is "Opto-Coupled" which presumably means at some stage in the circuit the electrical connection is replaced by light to ensure the mains will never actually reach the serial port... |

I had been trying for a long time to find a source for UK compatible X10 units. Suppliers that had previously sold them had stopped due to a problem with CE markings not being on their units. However eventually I found out about Laser Business Systems Ltd who are selling them RIGHT NOW... |
