PC Remote - Review PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 08 May 2002

Now here's a new product - in fact it's so new that the serial number on my review sample was 00003. The "P.C. Remote" is hardware/software solution, from Scottish firm Concept UK, that turns your PC into a learning IR universal remote...

Philips Pronto (TS1000) - Review PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 08 May 2002

I have had my fair share of universal remotes in my time. I started of with a cheap and cheerful Memorex 4 device model. I then progressed to a One-For-All 6 (upgradeable). I had a brief encounter with the Remote Angel but I rejected it and instead plumped for the stunning 8-device Marantz RC-2000 (Mk1). That was About 18 months ago and now even an 8 device, 64K universal remote isn't enough anymore. So...bring on the new contender. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you The Philips TS1000 Pronto...

Cambridge Audio M1 Enhanced - Review PDF Print E-mail

This remote is apparently a Richer Sounds badged version of the "Remote Angel" control, but I haven't been able to compare it with one. The current version is the M1 Enhanced, which includes DVD screens...

Wireless Remote Control (RT504) - Review PDF Print E-mail

(The module tested is the US unit, this operates on frequencies that are not allowed to be used for this purpose in the UK. When using the module for testing purposes I've experienced no problems....YMMV).  The unit is the size of a small normal TV type remote. Just a little bit stubby!. It takes four AAA batteries....

Stick-On Wall Switch (SS13E) - Review PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 08 May 2002
The slim stick-on wall switch, like the wireless keyfob, seems to be one of the new breed of X10 modules. New in that, at last, they look like they are 21st century consumer devices and not 19th century!

Only an amazing 7mm thick, this wall switch is truly thin. When stuck to a wall it gives the impression that it is the faceplate fronting a normal wall box, albeit a non-standard shaped one.

Key Chain Remote (KR19E) - Review PDF Print E-mail

X10 have never been known for their aesthetic designs. Indeed it's has been pretty obvious to any X10 user that the company haven't exactly been employing famous Italian design houses to make their products more appealing to the eye. However, if the latest releases from X10 are anything to go buy that may well be changing!

LinkSys Wireless Networking - Review PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 08 May 2002
I've been steadily watching the price of 802.11b wireless LAN gear drop over the last 18 months. Like most other technology, its cost is on a downward spiral. Access Points that used to cost a grand are now available at under £200 while PCMCIA cards appear to have dropped below £100. It's at this level that I have "bought in"...

Digisender - Review PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 08 May 2002

Background - As a recent Sky Digital subscriber I had a burning requirement to "deploy" Sky to the master bedroom. Also, I needed a solution that would work with all the other wireless technology already installed in my house (more on this later) and probably most importantly SWMBO doesn't like the idea of more holes in walls. Faced with this seemingly impossible task I decided to buy the DigiSender from AEI Security as one possible solution and crossed my fingers. In this review I'll cover the installation and usage of the device together with my experiences of its compatibility with all my other HA wireless "stuff"...
