Standalone IR Repeater Review PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 April 2004
Submission by Nigel Garwood - Since having my little girl I decided that it would be a good idea to put our Video (Hitachi), DVD (Dansai), Freeview Box (Thompson) and Amplifier(Philips) in a cupboard under the stairs. This was to prevent them being "played with". To make this a practical solution we needed to be able to control these items from three separate locations; living room, kitchen and bedroom. Our house is wired with CAT5 throughout...

RF Kit for Pronto - Review PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 20 March 2004

Submission by This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - I have had a Philips Pronto for quite a long time now but it has not been the most popular control device in my house. It works well in integrating multiple IR remotes but it has not been very helpful in integrating with the rest of my HA system...

Connected Home 2004 Event - Review PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 06 March 2004

After what was perceived to be a relatively slow start for the industry - things are finally making progress. The Connected Home Conference - September 2003 - focused on partnerships to really push the industry forward. The technologies are in place and the service aggregators are ready - the challenge is communicating this to the marketplace. Building PARTNERSHIPS are the key to maximising this markets potential was one of the key messages...

Probe Zone Hub & Monitor - Review PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 01 March 2004

Submission by: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - This project is to address a major problem faced by many Home Automators, who are looking for a more intelligent way to monitor the status of their equipment throughout the home. In the past, I have struggled with monitoring Audio Visual Equipment status in various zones of the home. I used Smartlink probes hardwired into HomeVision, but when I added multi zone IR distribution via FirM, the system could not work within a multi zone environment...

Harmony SST-768 Remote - Review PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 08 October 2003

Submitted By Ken Watt - First Impressions - First of all I must apologise for the tardiness of this review as I was supposed to do it weeks ago and got caught up in other things I'm afraid, however on the plus side it did give me longer to evaluate the remote, or more accurately, for my better half to do so...

Sonance Virtuoso 831DR - Review PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 28 August 2003

Submission by Rob Mouser - Just down at our workshops spraying the grills to my latest speaker addition. So while the first coat dries I thought I would post my findings.

These units are the Sonance Virtuoso 831DR's. I've already got a barn full of Sonance units and have to say that I am really impressed by the quality. These units were destined for my office but when I saw the size of them 'in the flesh' I decided to move my Sonance Symphony 622TR's from the lounge to my office and put these new ones in their place...

Sky+ Versus TiVo - Review PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 31 July 2003

Much has been written about Sky+ and TiVo with it degenerating into a "mine's bigger/better than yours" type affair a lot of the time so, in the interests of science I set out to find out which one was the best with some surprisingly unsurprising results, to me at least...

Xbox Media Player - Review PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 13 May 2003

Xbox Media Player, a real (... and cheap) alternative to Windows Media Centre Edition - Before I start into this let me tell you that I'm not a big games fan and although I do get the occasional spot, it's more likely to be stress induced that an echo of the heady days of puberty. As I'm sure you've already ascertained, you're going to need an XBOX to get anywhere with this natty bit of software. "But Dre ..." I hear you cry, "What is the Xbox Media Player!?" So, given that you're keen to find out more, I'll get on with the review...

Submission by This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - So you've been thinking about a wireless networking for a while, but 11Mbps was just too slow to be worth considering, you can't wait any longer so is now the time to jump the gun and buy into 54g and worry about compatibility later...
