Cheap Matrix Switcher from Keene

Tuesday, 21 October 2003

Submission by Nick Shore - "An advanced scart switchbox with some interesting features; the HSR1000 is effectively a Home Cinema friendly 7x3 Matrix switcher. There are seven inputs in total (six scart plus front AV), any of which can be independently routed to one of four outputs (three AV plus one audio only). For example you could have your DVD player routed to your TV, your satellite routed to your VCR, your Freeview box routed to your Video sender and another input routed to your Hi-Fi! Four of the input scarts supports RGB, one is composite only and one is composite or s-video. The HSR1000 also supports digital audio (SPDIF) for three of the inputs. Finally, it can be set to switch automatically or operated manually via the front panel or with the supplied IR remote."....

DIY Video Probs

Tuesday, 5 August 2003

Submission by Frank Mc Alinden - Recently I purchased some Smartlinc video and led Probes . The reason for purchasing the probes was twofold . Firstly nearly every night I have to check my hv flags to ensure the tv,s dvd,s are set correct as my non ha compliant family tend to to turn kit on manually at times and therefore my flags status are incorrect so the probes should solve this problem. Secondly I was asked initially by another HV/FirM User to build a port extender with stereo sockets on it for his video probes. The project has now taken a slightly different direction and a multizone probe controller is being developed to return the requested probe status to Homevision...

If I started talking to you about LCD panels for home automation use, you'd probably start thinking about kit from the sort of suppliers that you're vaguely aware of in the same way you're aware of the outer planets: you know they're there, but you're unlikely to ever have anything to do with them...But if I told you that this was a DIY project, I'd probably put you in mind of some sort of 2-line LCD PIC bodge job, of the sort favored by UKHA's inner sanctum of "How Much?! I'll build it myself!" ubergeeks. And I mean no disrespect here, as I'm one of them.

This project is about neither of the above approaches. You probably won't even have to get a soldering iron out. Some C or C++ coding skills might be of use - at least until there are ready-to-use apps available. What we'll end up with when we've finished is an LCD control panel with the following features...
