HomeEasy Review

 

This morning I was primed to settle down to a normal day's work when Chaos on the UK Home Automation IRC Channel mentioned something about "B&Qs HomeEasy automation stuff", and that pretty much put paid to the rest of the morning. We turfed up the website but there was precious little information on there besides the usual marketing guff. Control4 Announce New Home Controller

Control4 HC-500

 

Control4 have announced their latest home controller - the HC-500.   In addition to its Home Automation credentials of lighting, temperature and security control, it also offers multi-room music from its built-in media server. The unit is expected to ship in March and packs IR, Serial, wired Ethernet, Wifi and Zigbee.  Read on for the details...

Idratek Launch 4 Channel Smart Home Dimmer

Idratek QLD-001

Idratek have released the QLD-001. This is a compact 4x 250W/channel DIN rail style dimmer. It uses standard leading edge (phase turn on) technology and an 8 bit dimming resolution.  The unit also has 8 digital inputs which, as is usual with IDRATEK technology, are not particularly committed to this module. However inbuilt Reflexes can be enabled to allow the inputs to control the outputs directly. The unit requires both Live & Neutral feeds and is over current and over temperature protected. An IDRANet interface is of course built in so the outputs can be controlled by other network modules and/or Cortex...

Here's another teasing release on new UK Z-Wave modules, this time from the Taiwanese, Everspring Industry.  Promised for release in Europe "during the next few months", the new units promise "low-cost home automation" and the initial products include a plugin dimmer and on/off switch, a PIR plus magnetic door and window sensors...
