Shion is a relatively new home automation application for the Mac.  The OSX software is open source and the latest version includes support for the Apple Remote.

Home automation products are still a bit thin on the ground for the Mac platform.  However Indigo from Perceptive Automation is a quality smart home management system.  Its built-in web server and client/server architecture give you control and access to your home remotely from other Macs, PCs, internet tablets, PDAs, and mobile phones. Indigo supports the PowerLinc home control interfaces, and is the first Mac software that can control both INSTEON and X10 compatible devices...

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done this, but a few days ago I decided to draw up a list of my favourite technology from the last 12 months.  As I asked myself what items I had been using on a daily basis, the ones I really couldn’t live without, I came to the realisation that the top ten or more technologies I was thinking of, came from just two companies!  It probably won’t be too much of a surprise to find out who they are, but here is my shortlist for “Top Tech” in 2007…
