UK company Compulogic have just released their new LinkTx product. This unit is an SMS based monitoring unit, with multiple applications, including home automation.

"The LinkTx is an SMS based monitoring unit, allowing a GSM mobile or GSM enabled computer system to receive alarms and other information from remote locations. Additionally, text messages can be sent to turn equipment on or off and receive up to date measurement and alarm information directly to a mobile phone or PC. An optional combined Ethernet and GPRS web server module is also available enabling all monitored LinkTx inputs and outputs to be viewed or changed in a web browser...

The Register has just published a story on the new plans by T-Mobile to release a wifi enabled mobile phone. Is this finally the device that will allow us to control our home while we are inside it, or on the other side of the world?

Star Trek Badges Become Reality

Forbes.com is running a story about Vocera, a company that has developed a Star Trek type communication device, and we're not talking about those lame 1980's mobile phones Kirk & Co had.

 

According to the press release, Vocera have the system up and running in their office, and it , uses VoIP for transmission. You just tap the badge & say the name of the person you want then away you go, until some erects a level 5 force feild, or whatever...
