Video: First Tesla Powerwall System Installation on TV

This Ozzy TV Show claims to have the first televised Tesla Powerwall installation.

Walt & Dani from Channel 10’s Healthy Homes recently paid a visit while we were installing a Tesla Powerwall home battery system. Get more from your solar power system.

There are a lots of interesting DIY projects to build a home Powerwall around. If I was building the Automated Home again today, I’d be putting in the biggest solar array I could afford and linking it to this battery tech.

  1. I’ve been very tempted by a Tesla powerwall, but when you do the sums, it just dosn’t make sense.

When the powerwall is fully charged, it holds almost £1 of electricity. Yes, less than one pound. So that is your maximum saving on a really favourable day. Consider those days when there isn’t enough solar power to run the house, and definitely no surplus to charge a battery, so the powerwall will just sit there with fully depleted batteries, saving nothing at all.

In the UK it could go for months without getting charged, so for me the saving would be around £200 per year, with a payback time of 20+ years, assuming the batteries survive that long. Disappointing, but pointless in the UK.
