			<description>I don't quite get the hesitation with the Drobo. There's no such thing as an industry standard implementation of hardware RAID. Any box that fails will require replacement with a box that has the same controller in it (same as Drobo).

			<description>BeyondRaid is a recent name for what Drobo has been using for a couple of years now. 

If you want Vanilla RAID then go for that instead.  Mind you, there are plenty of horror stories on our mailing list of users losing data to standard RAID.

Whatever the form, RAID is never an alternative to proper backups.

			<description>BeyondRAID sounds like a fantastic bit of tech but I am not sure I'd want to tie myself into a proprietary long term backup/storage solution. It should be made an industry standard like RAID.
