VeraPlus Advanced Smart Home Controller

The long-awaited VeraPlus home automation controller is now available to pre-order with deliveries promised within the next 5 weeks.

The multi-protocol unit talks Z-Wave (Plus), ZigBee, Bluetooth LE and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi. Vera say the Plus supports over 1,400 devices and they have apps for iOS, Android and Windows Mobile.

Even if a device has its own app there are many benefits to controlling it with Vera. It can interact. Your Schlage lock can automatically change your Nest thermostat, for example, as you unlock your door. Most security sensors for doors, windows, motion, etc. require a controller and its app; they don’t work alone. The Vera Dashboard app combines devices that come with their own apps with devices that have no app into one, easy to control panel accessible from anywhere using phone, tablet or laptop.

The VeraPlus is available from Amazon.

This review is not helpful. I recently signed up for your website hoping to learn more about the home app field so I can make intelligent choices. Like many new products, I want to know the pro’s and con’s of buying it before I pay money for it!!! Does it work? What are the problems and limitations? I feel like your sirte is just offering products without appropriate background for a consumer to make an intelligent choice. Or, alternatively, you are only talking to the advanced reader. Either way, this approach doesn’t work for me.

  2. @Mike This post is not a ‘review’.

I try my best to balance posts between showing off the latest new smart home gear and more in-depth reviews like this one or this one.

I sense frustration in your comment (and the three !!!). The Smart Home certainly is frustrating, but don’t stress.

What is it you are looking for, what’s your budget and your expectations? Drop by our forums and I’m sure we can help you with some advice.

    Thanks

    M.

  5. Agree with you Martin, I always look forward to Mark’s updates and information from Automatedhome.
I would have not known about this and many other devices had they not been on on here.

  9. This product ANNOUNCEMENT post was helpful thanks 🙂

I also check the site daily – keep up the good work and put comments which are not helpful in the recycle bin, then empty it.

  13. Not as easy to setup as advertised. Bought this directly from them. Crashed after just two weeks. Support very slow and incompetent. Just replying to their emails resulted in their finally dropping my emails rather then offer any solutions or even an exchange. Advise to avoid them.

I don’t know about others but I bought the Plus unit because it operates so many other formats. I have had x10 equipment running in my home for about 15 years now and wanted to slowly change to z-wave. The plus unit gives me that ability and now I have changed over. But I still use the x10 one in a while to do things I need as temporary setup like Xmas lights. There could be a few improvement but overall it does what I need it too.
