Video: Garageio Controls Your Garage Door From Your Smartphone

Garageio WiFi Door Opener App

Ohio based Alottazs Labs have a new system for home owners that want to operate their electric garage doors from their smartphone.

The ’Garageio’ system consists of the BlackBox hardware Wi-Fi interface and a free iOS / Android app (Windows Phone coming).  Compatible with a large list of garage door opener manufacturers and models, the system allows you to control and monitor up to three sectional or single panel doors from anywhere in the world from a single unit.  In addition you can give access to (and log the activity of) up to 10 other users for each door and you get push notifications to your iPhone or Android device when your door is left open.

While similar to our own IP Garage Door Control, Garageio is more of an appliance that you can set and forget and removes the need to administer various components and services which is often the downfall of the more DIY approach.  We asked Zach Cochran about the cloud service aspect of Garageio and if there are any plans for an API to integrate with other home automation system and he told us…

The Garageio service is built atop a highly-scalable, open-source platform which is able to spool up or down depending on demand. For security purposes, all of Garageio’s service software is custom built and does not rely on any third-party services. All of a user’s information and activity are 100% contained within our technology.  We have not firmed up our plans for an public API though we are are in talks with some awesome services which facilitate crosstalk between separate systems/services. We hope to finalize our integrations within the next month.

Alottazs say they plan to fulfil their first orders from their Fundable campaign by early 2014. Further product will be available after that for around $149 and they hope to be selling in Europe in 2014…

We have been discussing Europe/selling internationally and it is definitely on our radar.  We plan to tackle the United States first, moving to international sales early 2014.
