Google Home

Google Home has the Amazon Echo in its sights. It’s a $129 voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant and you ask it questions that start with, “Ok Google”.

Introducing Google Home, a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant. Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. It’s your own Google, always ready to help. Just start by saying, “Ok Google” to enjoy music, get answers straight from Google, manage your everyday tasks, and easily control smart devices around the home.

And the assault on the home continues with the announcement of Google WiFi , a modular system of routers that starts at $129 and provides wireless access around your house…

Google Wifi is a new approach to home Wi-Fi. It’s designed as a connected system of points that are placed throughout the home to provide bedroom to basement connectivity. Whether your house is large or small, Google Wifi points work together to deliver wall-to-wall coverage to handle all of today’s Wi-Fi hungry devices. 1. Is it just me or is it annoying to have to say “OK Google”….. I know these guys are trying to drum their brand into us all but really? Why can’t I give my house a “name” and use that instead as the wake word….

  2. Seems like a logical step for Google, Alphabet, whatever, with its plans to dominate smart homes

  3. I think part of the reason is that saying “OK Google” is a fairly unique set of phonetics that would be difficult to mistake for something else.
