Zipato have revealed their new wall mount home automation controller ahead of CES 2016.
Looking like the Kylo Ren of the smart home world, the Android powered unit (v5 Lollipop) incorporates an 8″ touchscreen (800 x 1280), 6 programmable scene buttons as well as sensors for Sound, Light, Humidity, Temperature, Motion and Shock. In addition there’s on-board dual dry output (230VAC, 1A), Dry input (12-24VDC), external temperature sensor (1-Wire DS18B20), a 2MP video camera, muti-sound alarm siren, SD card slot, Speaker and Microphone. Phew.
Zipatile is the breakthrough system in a form of a single device. It can be easily mounted on any wall, in any home. Featuring large number of built-in sensors and hardware modules, ZipaTile will replace numerous home devices such as security system, thermostat, automation controller, IP camera, alarm siren or intercom, and bring the all together in one, smart and beautiful device.
The wall-mount system (205mm x 205mm x 5mm) is powered by Quad-core 1.6GHz ARM Cortex-A9 with 1024MB of RAM and 8192MB of Flash storage and supports Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Ethernet over USB, Bluetooth 4.0, Philips Hue, Sonos, Nest, Z-Wave+ 500 series and ZigBee HA.
The Zipato ZipaTILE will cost around €300.

If it integrates with all those third party products, for me, it seems like a better option to simply use a tablet like the iPad with a front end, and configure everything that way. Maybe I am missing the point.
Looks good though, price isn’t too bad.
The biggest problem with using tablets or phones is you have to unlock them, launch the required app, wait whilst splash screens are shown etc. all this just to turn a light on. At least with a wall panel it’s like a light switch. It’s easy and most people can cope as long as the UI is simple.
Isn’t Zipato cloud only though?
So no internet for some reason and suddenly your lights don’t come on?
Zipato works with cloud servers to build rules and perform configuration but once configured, the system works independently of an Internet connection. The rules and devices can all be controlled in a local mode without a problem.
This looks really nice, hopefully the Sonos and Hue integration will work well I could see using this in bedrooms or at the entrance to the house. I’m assuming as it’s Android we can run Kodi remote control and Smartthings etc..
