New VeraEdge Z-Wave Home Automation Controller

The new VeraEdge is a fully featured smart home gateway with an integrated WiFi router.

The little home automation controller is around 4 inches wide and is powered by a 600MHz MIPS SoC with 128MB of flash memory and 128MB of RAM. Round the back is a single Ethernet LAN port and a USB port. The unit incorporates the latest Z-Wave Plus chip and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi.

It will control over 220 devices from a selection over over 1,200 compatible Z-Wave modules available from multiple manufacturers. You can set and control your smart home with the Edge using mobile apps for iOS or Android smartphone or tablet, or use your computer (Mac or Windows).

The system can also record and report on your household energy consumption providing a quick dashboard display of energy stats. Integrate it with your IP CCTV cameras too and use Geofencing to trigger events and notifications.

    We had confirmation from Vera that the Edge is replacing both Vera Lite and Vera 3 – there are no other versions currently planned.

    Vera Edge is something that I am considering but how does it compare to Fibaro Home Center 2 and Home Center Lite.

    Has anyone got any suggestions or advice?
