Press Release

UCam247, a maker of innovative Wireless IP Network Cameras, today launches a unique WiFi enabled camera aimed at a variety of purposes ranging from remotely viewable home CCTV to baby and elderly monitoring, designed from the ground up to be useable in just a few minutes.

Unlike conventional IP cameras UCam247 cameras work across all types of broadband routers and without the traditional complexity associated with the installation of network cameras which can involve messing about with router settings and the use of 3rd party services.

“Most IP camera makers make bold claims about how easy their cameras are to setup and use and all too often these words ring hollow. At UCam247 we wanted the words ‘frustration free’ to really mean just that and our cameras are proof of our endeavours, enabling users to monitor whatever matters to them from the comfort of their smartphone in a truly plug-and-play way,” says Ms Bindu Gor, Sales and Marketing Director at UCam247.

Uniquely, UCam247 cameras can be set-up and controlled directly from an iPhone, iPad or Android device using an accompanying free app – so there is no longer the need to have a computer to hand nor install any bloated software.

Equipped with long range WiFi, infra-red night vision, motion sensor, built-in micro SD video recorder, email alerts and more every UCam247 camera is essentially a fully fledged, all-in-one CCTV system, with no additional hardware or software required.

So, not only can a user remotely view Live video from their camera on-demand but they can also control its functions and review any motion triggered event clips stored on-board, no matter where they happen to be.

In short, UCam247 cameras are about the simplest IP cameras around and fully loaded with a host of features that make them a smart choice for baby and pet monitoring, home and business video security, and many other uses besides.

  1. This looks like just the ticket, I just recently bought a DCS-932L camera and it’s a real bugger to get the wireless working, if indeed this does work as advertised (on a Mac) then I’ll get one.

I would like to know however if the LED lights glow in the dark i.e. a dead giveaway when monitoring in the dark, better camera systems employ IR light which cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Another thing I would like to know is how easy/hard it is to connect a live stream to Mac software like “IP Camera Viewer” (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/ip-camera-viewer/id412795760?mt=12)?

I need to view the footage live where ever I am so that’s on the iPad/iPod/iPhone and Mac, how quickly can it establish a connection, what are the data rates like on the network and how about the quality of the sound?

    Thanks!

  2. I think you’ll find all cameras with IR have LEDs that ‘glow’ a faint red in the dark – that’s the nature of Infrared light emitting diodes I’m afraid.

The great thing about the UCam247i is that it has its own free iPhone/iPad app you can use to view the camera’s Live video from anywhere (providing you have mobile broadband connection of course on your phone wherever you happen to be).

As for speed of connection try out the Live demo from the UCam247 website and you can check it out for yourself.

  3. Thanks for your reply.

I’m sure that the LEDs can be made to not be visible in the recognisable light spectrum, which would be beneficial for my tastes, but I think it costs more, where as this is a reasonably priced camera.

I appreciate that a software app is available, however allowing for others to hook into the camera with their existing setup is always a must, is it possible?

Is the free iOS software simply a website in software clothing? And is it free software (or bundled with the hardware?)

My concern with speed was not for the refresh rate, rather the latency of which other users of a home network could expect to receive when the camera was in use and how the quality of the [live] stream itself might be affected, those kinds of real-world data rates.

  4. The camera is like any other IP cam so yes you can certainly set it up for use with IP Cam Viewer and any other app that supports set up using an mjpeg stream.

As for our own app this is not just a mobile website – it is actually a dedicated app that works very differently to any other IP cam viewer app. The best way to check it out, as I said before, is to download the app and test it with our demo cam – it won’t cost you anything but a bit of time 🙂

  5. There’s a photo of one of these cameras in an external housing, but no indication on the site whether this camera is suitable for use outside, and no link to buy one. Can anyone advise?

  6. I’ve tried the app on an Android phone, and it’s great. However, on an iPad, there’s no button to move to the next field and the password field is hidden by the keyboard. Is there a way around this?

  7. The UCam247i is an indoor camera. There is an external version coming soon but for now only the indoor version is available.

If you rotate the iPad into portrait mode you should see the fields you need.

  8. Thanks Pete, but my hardware is out of date. Still I’ll keep this on the back burner for when I have more money, pending other reviews.

    Thanks!

  9. Great – that worked on the iPad (once I had unlocked it)!

Looking forward to the external camera announcement.

  10. is there an outdoor HD version coming anytime soon ?
