Video: New Philips Hue Go Portable ZigBee Light

Philips have announced the latest addition to their ZigBee controlled smart home lighting range.

The Hue Go (Hugo?) is a lamp that can be detached from its mains charger to be taken anywhere around your home, inside or out.

It takes around an hour and a half to charge and that will provide you with up to 3 hours of unplugged lighting. Philips say the lamp can produce 16 million colours and comes with 5 patented ‘natural dynamic effects’ :-

Cozy Candle, Sunday Coffee, Meditation, Enchanted Forest and Night Adventure.  You can also set it to gradually increasing light intensity to wake you up gently in the morning.

The lamp can be controlled the old fashion way from the button on the back. But once connected to the wireless ZigBee bridge you can control it via IFTTT and the iOS and Android Hue apps to set timers, notifications, alarms, and geofencing.

Even integrate it into your full home automation setup with the Hue API. The Philips lamp will also allow you to extend your AmbiLight TV lighting to extend the movie or gaming atmosphere around the whole room.

The Philips Hue Go is available from Amazon.

  1. Just bought one of these – high quality glass construction and bright and vivid colours. The range of colours is much better than the standard Hue bulbs – deep greens are possible. The range of dimming is also far greater. The built in programs are a nice touch. Well worth the money and I may well purchase more – would make an excellent bedside lamp too.
