Default BT Videophone 1000 70% Off- Now 40

Looks like BT are dumping their Videophone 1000 model. Currently showing with over 70% Off in their on-line store - Was 149.99 Now 39.98 . Should be worth a punt even if you don't use the video capabilities.

Can these be used with any sip provider or are they locked to BT's one?

I believe these are locked to BT broadband and video calls incurr a 10p/min charge which make these less of a bargain IMO.
FWIW I looked at this recently and bought a couple of web cams.

Ah ok. Anyone know who the real manufacturer is? They may have some less restrictive firmware available for it. At 40 each its not really worth it for a play since it would end up being totally useless to me with no BT account even if I wanted to pay that criminally high amount.
