for the screen-savers that show the clock ...

is the clock set & managed locally, or does it keep itself right via the 'net ?

so no need to bother about drift & clocks forward & back ...

Now you come to ask I don't actually know the definitive answer. When the devices are connected to a Squeezebox Server, now renamed to Logitech Media Server (LMS), they pick the time up from the PC clock. When the devices are connected to MySqueezebox.com (server-less cloud application) they pick the time up from that service. However, the devices happily seem to keep time even off network so I guess they use the underlying software / BIOS to keep time and then alter when they see a Squeezebox, MySqueezebox as a more authoritive time source

our Cortex PC, running 'XP Pro, and in isolation (no 'net connection), seems to know when to go forward (& back, presumably), but runs fast (four minutes, or so, at the moment) ...

so it would seem GMT / BST switches are known well in advance ...

Yepp daylight saving is built into the operating system of Windows and probabaly the same for Linux and MacOS. In fact this is currently a bit of a PiTA because numerous countries have changed their DST (Daylight Saving Time) in the last few years meaning a bunch of hotfixes for the OS.

If your XP machine can't "see" the internet it will be reliant on time keeping from the BIOS settings. Change the BIOS rather than the OS.
