'wondered if anyone knew of an app (iPhone) that can be used to send a message to Cortex just by tapping its icon ...

message to be varied from time to time, and perhaps the possibility of a choice of three messages ...

for releasing locks on front door & opening garage doors ...

There are GSM gate openers. These have a couple of relays and you just dial the GSM box let it ring a couple of times and it opens the gate. You can set up via text messages allowed numbers etc.

tempting, and some useful insights, too ...

in our case, though, we'd need three ...

and we already have the house end of the set-up, we're just short of the 'phone end ...

ie: Cortex makes a pretty good job of interfacing with the locks & openers, allowing all sorts of interlocks & checks, and it can deal with e-mails & SMS & even Skype, to a degree - e-mail would be preferred, to avoid the costs of having to have more SIM cards - but ... the UI would be far too long-winded to be useful for everyday opening of doors ...

'tis one of life's mysteries, that Idratek have nothing to offer in the App world of iOS & others ... so far, at least ...

not easy, of course, to do well - there are some quite elaborate Apps available for (eg) iPhone, that provide Remote Control functionality, but none seems to go quite far enough or to offer a suitably direct & intuitive interface ...

presumably the objective will be quick checks & interventions from (eg) iPhone - check the house is OK, open a door, turn-up a light, switch-on the telly, etc ...

and perhaps the same but also something more elaborate from (eg) iPad ...

iPad pixel count is really quite large now, which maybe opens-up the possibilities ...

can't wait to try it !
