newbie advice for x10, pc remote & logitech

    Hi guys
Newbie here looking to get into home automation

What I'm looking for is a remote for my pc for media player and also
Having my lights on remote control too

What I thought was starting with the marmitec cm15 pro
This would control my lights from my pc

Then I was hoping for a pc remote linked to the cm15 pro
Would this have to be the marmitek easy rf 10 or could I use the Logitech harmony one?
I would need the remote to control my media player that's quite important

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Unless there is a plugin for the CM15 for IR signals then a Marmitek RF10 maybe the one to go for. The RF signal range on these remotes isn't the best.
The Harmony range of remotes are very good. I use one at home, and this does control the lights. But it uses the IR reciever on my Homevision controller which then translates it to an X10 command. Unfortunately the Homevision controller is no longer in production. The Homeseer software might be worth looking into. There are IR to X10 gateways out there, but many of these are limited to 16 or less X10 commands.
    Have a look here;

It depends if it can speak X10 RF then yes otherwise no. My logitech remote is also RF but will only transmit IR codes to a remote IR transmitter. It can also do Z-wave but not X10 RF.

          Ah i see,

im not sure it does x10 to be honest only ir to its own station that then blasts ir to the recievers inside cabinets!

im thinking but i may be on the wrong track here,

          logitech harmony one ir remote

pc ir usb reciever for the media player,

but whats the best way to control the lights from ir? do i still need the cm15 pro?

          thanks

To be fair if you only wish to control your lights by ir you don't need a home automation system just something like this:

However this isn't quite as fun as going a step or two further!

that would be the easy option i agree
but i would like something to tweak with i really like the look of the marmitek touch panel thats impresive would i still need the cm15 pro or is it a case of fitting the micro switches behind the light switches and getting the remote to send the signals

If I was to get the marmitek easy icon remote would it control my windows media player wireless if I was to try and find a wireless pc adaptor like my Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse

Or would it have to be ir I have seen the USB to ir remotes

If that's the case then I prefer the Logitech harmony one and I could then add the ir to the x10 modules

Obviously wireless control of the pc is what I prefer does anyone know if this is possible with the marmitek remote for windows media player

                Thanks
