new to home automation, starting from scratch, please help

    Can you help me please?

I am completely new to home automation.
I am wheelchair-bound and have long considered home automation.
I am now in the position of completely renovating a bungalow for my own use.
So I am starting completely from scratch, I am able to use wired or wireless control through the mains or dedicated wiring.
It is my way to do things for myself. I program in Visual Basic so that I can adapt things to do what I want to. So the 1st requirement is that I need something that allows me to write my own software in Visual Basic.
Basically, as a science teacher I will probably want to use analogue as well as digital inputs. Mains voltage as well as low-voltage.

So I guess I am asking for your recommendations as to which hardware to use.

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Welcome Steve.

It might be worth looking at some of the open source home automation on our page here...

You wouldn't have to start from scratch and you could maybe contribute too. A PC based system will also give you good flexibility on what type of hardware you can use.
