Evohome Reset when batteries are in

    Hello,

I'm new to this forum which sems great for finding help about evohome.

I have the Evohome system since september 2015 and i find it great.
    i have :
    Evotouch with BDR91
    14 HR92 heads in 12 area.
    RGF100 gateway
ATF300 wall plate (not yet in use, house is under renovation thus no electricity in that room)

The installation has been made by a specialist (i hope he is) but i have one or too question/problems :
    - First of all (problems) the evotouch controler (panel) did somtimes reset continuously when batteries are in... as soon as y remove them, the device stop reseting. When i put them back, the device reset, get to the hour settings, then reset and so on. It happens 2 weeks ago, i changed original batteries with other rechargeable batteries of the same voltage, and now same problem, it reset again and again ... it's now in the stand plugged to the electricity. is there a problem with the device or do i something wrong ? Maybe a firmware update is needed here?

    - I have read somewhere on this forum that the evotouch controler could be configurer as a standalone thermostat when not using HR92 heads. I think the guy who installed the system did it wrong. How could i check the configuration of the evotouch controler to see if its set as standalone or not?

Hope my questions are "clear" enough as english is not my first language.

    Thanks for your future answers.

    Mike

Can't help but mine does similar. Lifting it off the wall mount and replacing it will nearly always reset it. Don't know why it happens, but my previous generation Evohome did the same so my guess is it's very sensitive to power fluctuations.

I'd check the contacts are clean (rub them with a bit of denatured alcohol on a cotton bud) and bear in mind that the DC power jack needs to be pushed surprisingly firmly into the socket on the back of the stand.

Just putting in new system as well and the Controller batteries are definitely a problem. Examples:

      1) Batteries fully charged. Remove unit, use for 5 mins put back in cradle. Come back in a few hours take unit from cradle and it beeps, displays "return to base" and batteries are dead. Unit felt secure and normally seated when it was taken out of cradle and replaced.

      2) Batteries fully charged. Removed from unit only lasted 10 mins before "return to base" and batteries were almost dead.

      3) Lastly there is nothing on the docked screen showing charge of batteries - that's the missing link. Just shows the connected to mains and charging icon. Could do with a percentage charge number.

      4) Dead batteries is a real problem when installing in large property and you want to go and reconfigure some remote item and you have to wait for batteries to charge.

Check that the battery contacts are holding the batteries in securely. The contacts are nothing more than bent pieces of metal. If the batteries are being disturbed by controller movement then that might account for the re-setting.

Just to confirm that it is possible to use the controller in lieu of the HR92s in a zone. I have three HR92s in a hall/stairs/landing zone and my system uses the controller to control all 3 HR92s.

My controller nearly always resets when I lift it off the table stand. There's a brief message on the screen saying something about a pin going high, or words to that effect.

Hopefully the connector on the new Wi-Fi model has been improved so that this doesn't happen.

When my system was first installed the middle battery connector was broken. As a work around while the new unit was coming I used a bit of folded up tin foil. The batteries still felt a bit loose in the new controller so I carefully moved the clip to put a bit more pressure and hold them securely. It seems to have worked, but I would have resorted to the folded up foil again if necessary!

              Thanks for your answers guys...

It's a shame that so much devices have "batteries issues" as it's not a cheap system...

The new model is the Wi-Fi one, the older one has the separate RFG100 gateway that connects to your router.

                Assuming you use the App.

I bought my Evohome kit about three weeks ago. I had a similar charging problem when I first set it up. My supplier thought it was a faulty transformer and shipped out a new transformer. This made no difference. I then accidentally discovered that the Evohome controller unit needs a firm push onto the stand to seat it properly. Once I did this, I have not have had any problems since. If you have a battery icon on the controller screen, unit is not charging. When unit is connected to mains, battery icon disappears from the screen. In other posts on these forms, others have pointed out that the plug from the transformer needs to be pushed firmly into the connection on the stand. Hope this is of help.

Was just going to mention about the "extra push" to seat the unit back in it's cradle when I read Jom.
You can just "place" the unit back and it looks ok, but there is extra mm's of movement that requires a more firmer push to make it go completely down.

Anyway, new system is up and running and the house is now looking after itself. Something I found out is that you can bind multiple relays to the same System item - ie: 2 BDR91's to the same Heating item.. That allows 1 relay to to switch the HW 2-way valve and another relay to do something else entirely different as it's just a switch - so could start some music (has to be https://youtu.be/Kuw8YjSbKd4) , sound a klaxon and switch the shower on for you...

Footnote here: Professional Heating Company and Electricians were used - both are big comps and have done a "couple" of basic Evo's (Heat Comp is Honeywell Installer) but all agree that to get the best out of it for it's high cost needs a lot of studying, knowledge, more installations and free kit of everything for installers to play around with to get deep understanding. And there won't be more installations until the cost comes down. Catch-22 here Honeywell eh.....

Honeywell provide lots of assets to enable installers to become trained and experienced. Youlearn for example. Face to face training is also available for Honeywell Installers. Cost is not a barrier to installations in my view, finding an installer that is experienced and capable can be a challenge but if you go to the Honeywell website and search for Honeywell Connected Specialist on your area you should be able to find one.

                        Appreciate your point T.B.

I'm just the chap who paid for everything (and configured the Controller Zones to the HR92s) and the above comments come from the "workers on the coal face" - the heating, plumbers and sparks were all pretty much in agreement.

I expect most people find the same as me for local approved installers, it's not just Honeywell, as I had a Wors.Bosch Ecostar boiler and of the 6 local WB approvees 5 were 1 man bands and only 1 was a Ltd business with mutiple staff. Not a problem really, just par for the course so caveat emptor applies.

Anyway, it's up and running and first impressions are good, but there's tinkering to be done during first few weeks after seeing how the whole house works as one.
