    X-10 through UPS?

I have a TiVo (PVR for the uninitiated see http://www.tivocommunity.com) that is protected by a UPS.

The problem is that the TiVo sometimes crashes and if I am away that can be a problem.

I would like to use an appliance module to power cycle the TiVo, but would like to know if the X-10 signal can pass through the UPS?

If not is there another solution anyone has come across such as an infra red controlled mains power relay?

    Many thanks for your ideas

Many UPS systems have some kind of mains filter. This tends to knock out the X10 signals.
You can get X10 controlled relays and there is an X10 activated IR remote.
For the relays look here http://www.letsautomate.com/10485.cf...TOKEN=33001698
For the X10 IR remote try here http://x10-hk.com/store/product_info...products_id=57

The problem with the relay board is that the relays are low voltage, but you could always use this to control a bigger relay. Or use an X10 Universal Module and a bigger relay.
IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Well I got back from my trip tonight and I tried an appliance module on the "wrong" side of the UPS and it work!

Guess the filtering on my UPS is not so hot, there again - its a small house, and I am certain none of my neighbours use X10.

Seems i now have a remote reboot solution - well nearly, just have to have a webserver running all day. Shouldnt be too hard as the Linux box arrives tomorrow - time to try mister house? or is there a better solution for lionux?

What make of UPS do you have.
Its possibe that when you have mains power its effectively a straight through connector and there is no filtering.
          Glad it worked for you.
