Here’s the latest home automation project to hit KickStarter. WigWag aims to make your home more intelligent and autonomous with a range of sensors / controllers plus a cloud service and smartphone app for the logic. Also on offer are interfaces to Arduino and the Raspberry Pi for hacking your own DIY ideas. Check out the video below and if you like it then you can help the project get of the ground by funding it.
What is WigWag? WigWag lets you build intelligent environments anywhere with Internet-connected sensors and devices by letting you graphically write rules, “When” [this] happens “Then” do [that]. No complicated programming languages or computers necessary, rules are easily built on smartphones and tablets. The more WigWag and third party devices in your account, the more you can do!

I am a backer and in my opinion this will be much better than smart things.
Plus of course there are Ninja Blocks too…
These hardware-based add-on systems are simply the wrong approach and will never reach widespread adoption.
Purchasing endless dongles, installing them, (finding power) (hiding them, aesthetics) then configuring them, monitoring them, (securing them!) adds pointless complexity to otherwise simple systems. Paying more money to add complexity to one’s life will never lead to a viable market. This is why this home automation toy is seeking funding on kickstarter — no venture capitalist would touch this “idea” with a 39 1/2 foot pole.
Once GE produces wifi-enabled dimmer switches, lightbulbs, and appliances, this product and all others like it will be moot the next day.
