    Re: X CAMS

I don't own any X cams but I believe the picture quality is pretty poor. This is because they use a CMOS sensor rather than CCD. At night they are useless. The other disadvantage is that they use the public 2.4Ghz frequency and anyone can pick up the pictures with a video sender which may/maynot be a problem.

Yes they are very convenient but for my money, I would rather buy a CCD camera(s) and use cable. Video over IP is nice (and very expensive!) but there is nothing wrong in a few lengths of 75 ohm cable.

      Re: X CAMS

      Thanks for the quick reply

I did assume that the X Cams were a cheap an nasty solution,

      Problem is
I,m Living in the US now , Moved here a few months ago (Married to my American Wife )

I,m originally from Northern Ireland (Bit off a difference in the Weather here )

The X 10 Stuff here is so cheap , compared to what I was paying in the UK , Its easy to get sucked in , with the Cameras being so cheap

      My main Problem is that
Being US House , EVERYTHING is Cable , TV, Internet , etc , so I would have to start an try an rig a coax system , trying to run cables round the house IS going to be a REAL PAIN
but Hey , I may have to go that route

Friend in NI , Did point out that I could go down the road off a wired camera system to PC , With a 4x Camera Card , and that would act as a server for my network in the house , so as I could view Cameras on any off the 6 pc,s running on my network

That sounds more like what I,m wanting
Yes I know , still needs Cabling , but viewing on Network sounds like the job

      Thanks Again , for posting

The easy way to view the images on a regular tv is to go to Radio Shack and buy one of their video receivers. Their product number for that is 15-1972 and that is their receiver.
THey also have transmitters so you have a receiver-transmitter pair.

I replaced the x-10 transmitter with a RS 15-1971 sender unit and then use RS 15-1972 receivers hooked up to a TV anywhere I want to go with it around the house. I used the X-10 receiver in my pickup where I have a Sony Digital camcorder pointing out the back window and hooked up to a Sony DVD-VCR combo unit with it's output displayed on a mobile video monitor. I have cameras pointing forward and to the rear and use a standard video A/B switch to change between the two cameras. Of course I can also view DVD movies or watch TV or the two cameras with no problem. Either of the two camcorders can be viewed in the house on the X-10 system if the truck is parked close to the house.

So the best way to view X-10 output on a TV is using the Radio Shack 15-1971 and 15-1972 combo to output to a TV. I use the little 5 inch Radio Shack TV receivers that are no longer made to view the X-10 images.

IF you want to pick up the 1971 or 1972 units cheaply watch your pawn shops. They show up in pawn shops once in a while. I picked up a pair of them for $20 the other day.
