    LED Downlighters advise please

    Hi,

I am looking for some smart LED downlighters to put in my hallway upstairs.
I need them to be able to be dimmed via an X10 lightswitch so I dont know whether a 12v system would work or whether i need 240v ones.

The reason for this is I will program my comfort system so that when anyone walks upstairs a sensor will pick them up and depending on the light sensor will illuminate upstairs for a period of time and then shut them off.

    Can anyone recommend some downlighters?

    Thanks

    Dave

This is complicated. Not all LED lighting systems can be dimmed. The ones that can normally need a certain type of transformer.
    Try here http://www.lighting-direct.co.uk and http://www.mr-resistor.co.uk
They seem to have some of the best prices for LED lightng.
IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

      thanks for the reply.
The reason i wanted to be able to dim them was becuase i was going to use an X10(2) lightswitch with the soft on/off option.
Maybe I ought to use one of the older ones then I could mabe use standard LED downlighters.

No the problem is the LED lamp itself not the fitting. An individual white LED needs around 3.6V before it will light up at all. Sometimes a 12V LED lamp will be made from several LEDs in series. If you try to dimm those they just go out as soon as the voltage falls significantly.
