I don't think you can blame the vendor of the TRV. I would switch to Energizer Max, so you can claim a new valve from them if the batteries leak.
Can anyone explain the consequences of using smart TRVs with vs without the smart system also controlling the boiler for heating (for a system that is only being used to zone each room)?
I'm...
For the benefit of anyone else trying to do this, I found the way to do it, having come across what seems to be the latest (2020) version of the Installer Manual, here:...
Thanks, yes, I'm in the installer menu. The old HR92 is dead, so I can't unbind it directly. Perhaps I need to do an RF check and then there will be an option to add a device. But if you are able to...
Could a kind soul give me a steer as to how to replace an existing HR92 in my system? The original installation and set up was done by an engineer who is no longer available.
I have fitted the new...
The attraction is that they don’t leak. You raise lots of benefits of alkalines, but if they write off a £60 device every few years, that’s a major detriment.
Having said that, I notice that...
Some good points. I had a look at Energizer Lithium and the Ultimate are guaranteed against leakage. If they leak, they replace your device. I think this might be the way to go.
Edit: they are only...
Which is what I would have said, six months ago. Alkalines don't leak frequently, but it only takes once to write off a £60 TRV.
I've has two types leak. Duracell Pro and Amazon (supposedly leakproof). I'm switching to using rechargeable, as they very rarely leak.
I was amazed to see that faulty Evohome HR92 TRVs do successfully sell on eBay, listed as "for parts or not working". I just sold one which is dead after a battery leak.
So, if you prefer not to...
I agree, although I also find that sometimes my Technoline charger rejects certain batteries if they are completely drained (eg, all their charge is used and then they sit in that state and...
I've just had to scrap a HR92, due to a leaky alkaline. Completely dead, even after I tried to clean the contacts. So, I'm done with alkalines. These were Amazon own brand, which claim to be leak...
Just an update, in case anyone has the same objective.
Stringify has discontinued. IFTTT has, however, gained the ability to trigger an action 45 minutes before a Google Calendar event starts, so...
On the international website, I can't log out, so I assume I'll have problems logging in if I need to do so later today.
Thanks for this tip. The app had been failing to show any of my zones for the last few days (endless 'loading' icon), but your suggestion worked.
I use a similar approach to deal with heating for one-off bookings at our scout hut over the weekend. We already have a calendar for tracking who is in there, so I use the entries to trigger the...
Oooh, this is getting better! The options for Google Calendar are better on Stringify than IFTTT. Google Calendar in IFTTT can trigger an action at the time an event starts, but I have long wanted to...
Thanks, dty. That's what I was asking about: whether anyone had worked out how to use the Stringify Service on IFTTT. I'd tried this, but couldn't figure out how to make it work.
I persevered...
You mean wish, rather than with?
Mavis, thanks. I see how I do a Stringify "flow" (=applet) to create a calendar entry of "chilly" if it is Thursday, 6am and the temperature is below -2. So, I then create an IFTTT applet to check...
IFTTT is great, but quite limited. I'd like to set an IFTTT applet (previously called a recipe) that triggers an Evohome quick action to turn on the heating whenever the outside temperature falls...
Of course, Heat Genius also offers competition to Evohome, but it seems to get very little mention on this forum. I'm not sure if this is because there is anything in particular wrong with Heat...
I'll also be interested to hear how they compare in practice. Having installed Evohome in a scout meeting hall a year ago, I've been wondering about it for my own home, but Tado now seems to be a...
I go for Amazon Performance alkalines, because they claim 10 year anti-leakage. Not that alkalines often leak, but if a battery leaks, that's a £50 valve ruined, so I'd rather minimise the risk....
Think I might stick with the existing app, as I'm not going to use the security system, so the other changes seem detrimental, on balance.
