Default Potterton Myson Prima F40 needs hot water tap turned on...

    As the thread title suggests:

My Potterton Myson Prima F40 needs one of the hot water taps turned on before the pilot light kicks in. The boiler controls the central heating and water.

Once the tap has been running, the heating kicks in for a good ten minutes/ quarter of an hour.

What causes this? How can I best over come it? I did think that I had adequately bled the system after fitting a new downstairs radiator.

    Please help!

    I may well have a three-way valve...

    What does it look like?

    I think I found it...

It has a manual over-ride which allows the heating to heat.
Is it a remove and replace jobbie, or can I strip it and recon it?

I've rebuilt engines, so I'm not a total numpty!

can you see any make ?

if it's a honywell you can get a new motor, easy to fit and about a tenner,

but i'd go for replacing the whole unit, "tower" are the cheapest.

    Hi Sunbeam,
It's a potterton item, please excuse the huge and blurry pics...

Can it be stripped and repaired?

take off the top and see if you can determine wether the motor is rivited on, if not bingo moterised valves all use the same motors, but some are rivited (new valve)

    Will strip it tomorrow. Cheers!

So I look to see if it is rivetted. Then I can remove the motor if it isn't. If it is then I by a replacement. Is that right?

I have removed the top and the motor can be accessed by removing the tamper proof screws. But I noticed some corrosion around the spigot (my word!), so I cleaned it up and wd-40'd it.

We'll see how it holds up.
