    Default Potterton Puma 100 Problem

Low system pressure - heating will not shut off therefore pressure buildds up and water is vented from system.

So far thermistors, PCB's, Pump been replaced - still no fix. Engineer reckons the internal pipework is clogged up by sludge/limescale causing the thermister not to function. Says we need new boiler.

I think he has run out of ideas - please any words of wisdom before we go below freezing!

    cheers

the heating not shutting off should not cause a pressure build up,

are you saying that the heating just keeps going on and on until it boils?

it shouldn't, the over heat stat should click in,

if the pressure is rising when the heating is running then the pressure vessel either needs some air in it or it has gone.

    what's the hot water like?

    thanks for the reply.

the hot water is fine. I have had a look at the expansion vessel - you are right no air. I have tried recharging it to 2 bar with conventional pump but the vessel releases the air when you remove the pump connector. Any ideas?

    Many thanks

i suppose you could change the valve in the vessel it's only a bike valve at the end of the day. although i've never done it myself,

i've always either changes the vessel ,

or even easier leave the vessel alone and fit another one somewhere else on the system, there easily available, don't get the one for the boiler just ask for an expantion vessel and tee it in to the heating circuit somewher it's not going to be seen.you can do it with one of them do it your self wahing machine packs from b&Q
