Default No Heating, but hot water is fine

My heating isn't coming on, the boiler won't even fire for the heating although it's firing perfectly for the water.

From what little I know about central heating, it seems to me that the room thermostat isn't working correctly and isn't turning the heating on.

Does that sound right, if not where else should I be looking?

    It's a Baxi

Is there any way of bypassing the thermostat to make sure it is that before I replace it (I'm assuming I can replace it fairly easily)?
