    Worcester 240 combi RSF

Hi Eveyone, I have a problem with my Worcester 240 Combi RSF Boiler.
The pressure gauge on the front of the control Panel reads "0" when the system is not running.
When the system is switched on the Pressure gauge creeps up after about
30 mins it reads 1.5 bar and sits there quite happy.
The system will then switch off and the gauge will then drop back to "0"
as the water cools in the system.
Heating and Hot water seems fine, I have only recently moved in and have
    no information or user guide.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Many Thanks

if it's working ok then i'd be tempted to leave it,

the pressure gauge could be wrong,

it may need topping up a bit (1bar cold) but again if it's working no need, as long it's not making any noises when running.

Hi Sunbeam, thanks for the reply, before I take your advice, I have noticed
today that when I increase the Temperature dial on the front of the boiler the Pressure gauge rises also, is this normal? (Heating is on at this point)

I think if I was to turn the Temp Dial to maximum the pressure gauge would
be off the scale (over 4 bar).

Do you still think I can ignore it, or is somthing wrong that needs attention?

      Many Thanks for your time.

on the boiler there is a big red expantion vessel, this is more than likely the problem,

on this vessel there is a shrader valve,

connect a foot pump (with a pressure gauge) to the valve and pump up to 1.5 bar,

Hi Sunbeam, many thanks again, I will do that and let you know if
          it cured the problem.

sunbeam is quite right , sounds like the expansion vessel isn't operating properly, either needs recharging with air via the bicycle-type valve mentioned (which will probably mean you need to drain down so as not trying to pump against all the pressure contained in the heating pipework) or the diaphragm in the expansion vessel is perforated and it needs replacing, again with the drain down.

Good luck & let us know how you get on

Hi Stevie Rob, Thanks for your input. You mentioned the diaphragm is this replacable, or is it a case of that the whole expansion vessel needs replacing?

you may find it easier and cheaper leaving the one on the boiler and fitting a remote one.

Hi Stevierob and Sunbeam, Many thanks for your help, I hope to get to it in the next day or two, so I will let you know how I get on.

I will pick your brains again if I may, At the moment I am running the Heating system for 4 hours a day 2 hours in AM, 2 hours in PM.

I am on Calor gas (Big tank in the garden jobbie) and spend £60 per month
does that seem expensive to you?

Would it be better to fit a room thermostat and run constant during the winter months?

                      I would have thought £60 isn’t bad,

I don’t think it will help keeping it on, or fitting a room stat,

Maybe turn the boiler stat down a notch.

Thanks Sunbeam... OK got to the expansion vessel today, I eventually managed
to get the pump on to the valve, but before I could pump any air in water decided to come out, along with a few gurgles etc at the same time.

I presume from earlier posts that the diaphragm is shot, and I need to buy
a new expansion vessel, am I correct?

If I am correct, where would you recommed I obtain one from and is this a job for a qualified fitter or is it possible to fit one myself.

                        Many thanks
