    Re: Saturn

    Hi Duncan

They certainly do look really good, especially in the evening when it's dark and the LED's are more visable. I was showing the demo CBus units to one of our clients recently around dusk and the LED's in the Saturn and Neo really stood out.

In Oz can you get replacement glass fronts for the Saturns?

I've one here that some plonker dropped which resulted in 2 of the corners being chipped, but CIS UK say they can't get replacement glasses. I would have thought that it was a distinct possiblity that in general use the glasses could get damaged and need replaced.

    AFAIK the glass isn't tempered.

      Duncan,

The Saturns were my first choice although due to volume and costs I opted for Neo's (which isn't a bad alternative).

May look at getting a few in the future for the main rooms.

We about to commence on a job with 30 Saturns in the guys house.

How cool is that place going to look at night time. The whole house will have a blue aura... as long as he doesnt switch on the 244 downlights at the same time 8O

              OMG Low Voltage only.

We install around 4500 Downlights a year, all LV. Mains Halogen has terrible failure rate, at one time we were probably losing 1 in 4 Mains Halogen lamps.

Not sure how it affects CBus dimmers, but traditional dimmers have to be derated for mains halogen - 1 50w = 100w Dimmer, which is a real pain in the arse.

Mains Halogen manufacturers dont guarantee lamp life, only recommend it at around 2000hrs. LV lamps guaranteed for 5000hrs.

I've read this before about Main Halogens.

However in 5 years we've only replaced around 6 bulbs out of over 70. Maybe I'm just lucky, but mains halogens have been great.

Yes i would agree that once in and settled they can be fine - i installed about 30 in my last place prior to us changing to LV, and i didnt have one go.

Perhaps when they're been installed in slightly more harsh enviroments. Banging of floor above during carpet laying/cleaning etc., thrown in and out of vans  etc.

Dimming i still a big problem though - telling a customer they need and dimmer the size of a double socket for 8 downlights doesn't go down too well.
