    Motorised Windows

During my home automation planning process I was considering window security and installing reed switches to alert me to open windows when the system is armed and I got thinking... Why should I have to go trekking around the house to shut the window why can't it be closed automatically?

Now this is going to be well above my budget and I am not seriously considering it, I simply want to feed my curiosity. Does anybody know of such a motorised window on the market or retrofit options?

Yes there are units available for windows and also I have seen units for doors to.
    Have a look here http://www.smarthome.com/3160.html

      Hi Andrew,

This sort of thing is fairly common for greenhouses and conservatories, e.g.
http://www.simplycontrol.com/catalog...ng/default.asp (just one of the first hits from Google, no particular recommendation...).

Some of the windows I remember in hospitals and some schools have a worm drive cable to open/close the window as they were too high etc. Maybe you could look at these but with a small motor instead of the handle.

      HTH,

      Tim.

Windowmaster are the brand I come across most often on high end installs - they specialise in concealed actuators built into the frame profiles but also have surface mounted units for retrofit applications.
