    Default Cheap Hide-a-way IR system

I have used this a couple of times now and it works brilliantly.

Coax between the tv and the hide-a-way location,
    A Sky Eye
    Globals TVLink Plus Kit.

Ding, IR Control for two sources over a spare piece of coax.

Total cost under 40.00, if you want to add more rooms simply at one of thier cheap TV amps to split the signal.

Don't think of it as controlling Sky or TV stuff, it is just IR passing, so anything can be controlled.

    A good find

Is this the kit you use?

This one seems similar, but from a different manufacturer. Have you tried this one too? Is it the same?

There's a bit more info in the paper catalogue than is shown on the web, but outwardly, they look to do the same thing.

    Cheers,

    Tim.

Sorry, I meant to ask this in my last post. Does the coax need to be terminated at the IR receiver end, or is it sufficient to plug-in the remote eye?

I'm about to order one of these kits and will get a 75ohm terminator if it's needed.

    Thanks,

    Tim.

    Sorry TimH,

It has been a while since I popped on here.

Yep, that is the kit we sell but I would check to see if it comes with the eye or not, I have never seen them sold with an eye as well.

And 'no' the coax does not need to be terminated other than with the eye.

    Thanks Vex,

I figured you'd been offline for a while.
My kit arrived on Friday, I got the one in the second link, the Philex one. It came with remote eye, the splitter box, power supply and a cable with three IR blasters.

Got it working a treat to control my CD player under the stairs

    Thanks for the tip,

    Cheers,

    Tim.

Just an update on pricing & availability...
My local B&Q now do this system for 20 incl. vat - it's on the shelves amongst the other aerial & satellite bits.

I've had mine running for a while now and just can't fault it

    Cheers,

    Tim.
