These 'alternative' inputs were added to support usage of the IDRANet inbuilt objects for other sensors - particularly xAP ones.
Thus if you had a xAP object within your database which was linked to a xAP based PIR, communicating over Ethernet - then you connect it to the alternative input of the motion sensor - and it mirrors the xAP sensor and can be treated just like the standard Cortex motion sensor object.
Such network objects are often called 'virtual' because although they are IDRANet devices they don't physically exist on that network - but somewhere else. You can also interlink Cortex objects like this - for example creating two light level sensor objects - both originating from the same sensor but set with different dark thresholds...
