    Modular electrical switches & wallplates

I originally posted the following query in the Idratek forum, but realise it is probably of a more general nature:

I've been doing a bit of digging around and found the Click Modular range by Scolmore International (http://www.scolmore.com). They have a full range of switches, including retractive, which can be fitted into several sizes of modular faceplate in various finishes to match their other product ranges (e.g. white, stainless steel, brushed chrome, etc.). Other specialist modules include RJ-45, TV, satellite, BT jack and phono sockets.

Does anyone have any experience of using these, or the GET plc ones that Paul_B mentioned, or have other recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
Have used most varieties taken from the MK 'grid' system, they are very good for making up custom configurations that you won't find on a standard plate. No real 'favorites' just depends on finish you want. The new plates are 'screwless' i.e. just clip to the internal frame - look very nice. Just remember that you have to separate 240v items from low voltage stuff like TV,Phone, data etc - so not on the same plate.
    Regards,
    Paul.

Can the range be used with normal surface mount and dry line boxes or do you have to use specific MK 'grid' boxes?

The mounting frame fits onto standard boxes via the normal 4mm screw holes - the frame has 2 offset 'grub' screws that the front plate fixes to. I would suggest using a back box of at least 35mm depth as the modules are deeper than standard switches - also if using dimmers - calculate the total load as anything over 250w may use 2 slots on the grid plate.
        Regards,
        Paul.
