hope we'll not be accused of straying too far from the Idratek theme ... but I for one am convinced HF RFID would be a great adjunct to the HA system, in providing an extra sensory option - ie: an extra group of sensors, not ghosts ! - that could further improve what's possible (with Idratek) with presence sensing ...

downside, at the moment anyway, is a need to get into APIs, of course ...

Glad to have explored it now, too, because we're at the stage where we can easily put-in a few 5m USB cables (and rearrange where we put node-0 and/or the Cortex computer, if necessary) to form the basis of a USB network (5m cables, up to five layers of hubs, tree toplogy, and of course useful for more than just RFID) at the same time as the Idranet one !

more uses for RFID (+ others by analogy) :

bedside glass of water - reminder it's not there when go to bed ...

medicines - keep them on a Mir:ror, notice when they're removed (for taking) & replaced ... remind if this doesn't happen ... maybe have two Mir:rors, passing items between the two each time they are taken, change colour of inbuilt LEDs to indicate which's next, and sound (buzzer) to prompt ...

regular checks - add / pass object when done (eg: car, heating system, bank account, bills) ... maybe have two (as above) ...

kitchen timer ... add or pass object for whatever time is required, even with mucky hands (Mir:ror by work-surface) ...

shopping-list - add/pass objects to add to the list (Mir:ror in pantry, say, so do it while remember) ...

token, as single-track railways used to use / still do use ...

      any more ??

(all best when linked into Cortex)
