in days of old, many houses, grand & ordinary, had bell-pushes & bell-board indicator panels, like these :
lots of examples there, mostly expensive, because they are originals ...
not sure the buttons would be any good now - too noisy, maybe, might bounce too much, for example ... but the bell-board panels, or their rather more modern equivalent, might be useful, in some way, maybe, as indicators of what just happened ?
in similar vein, railway signal-boxes used to have control panels something like this :
as did power stations, and other such ...
so, was wondering, could there be a role for modern versions of such things - bell-pushes & summary-of-the-state-of-things panels - in an automated home ?
Regular computer displays & PDA screens are great, but they have to be on & their multi-function-ness is not so good when it comes to giving at-a-glance summaries ...
