    Plug & Play

wondered if it was possible to plug & unplug a device on the go - eg: have a switch module of own-making that can be plugged into a Idratek system as required ...

IIUC, it should be possible, using digital inputs of various modules, configured appropriately ... wired to sockets, rather than to (say) reed-switches, into which a portable switch unit could be plugged, as required ...

so, when have appropriate guests, we could provide a switch module on a flexible lead, plugged into the wall, to give them appropriate control options (lights, TV, whatever) ...

'bit like child-locks on a car - if they can be trusted, provide capability, and if they can't, don't ...

ie: without having to log into Cortex & reconfigure, each time want to provide / not-provide the control options ...

PS: imagine something like a Nice (*) module or shockproof holder on a lead, but on a lead & using (say) buttons from Maplin or Rapid ...

PS: I'd be interested in what you notion of trust here is :-)

"Guest Mode" is something I have found that I had to implement ...

aye, yep - trust as in can they handle it or not, and ... maybe not a good idea to give kids too much freedom ! Guest mode sounds about it, plus not having the switches, when inappropriate !

maybe, but wireless remote's tend to get lost & most offer a terrible / inappropriate UI (IMO) !
