I've used a 19" IEC power distribution unit in my server rack, the latest one I have gives a bank of 12 illuminated switches on the front, and the matching 12 IEC sockets on the back, which makes it really easy to reboot or switch off any of the switches, gateways, or other devices in the rack.
Doesn't address the problem of not having enough 13A sockets round your desk though. There I work on the view that a fuse is there to protect you, if you daisychain 6 x 4 gang adaptors together, then the devices at the end have to go through 6 fuses. That must be super safe
