Turning off the PIR tell-tale LED

    Hi

I know in the FAQ it states:

    5. Modules

5.1 How do I turn off the tell-tale indicator on a PIR unit (for example in a bedroom)?
    Send:
    FA90nnnn440012002002
(Clear Bit 1 in Module General Mode Byte, where nnnn is module Node ID
    )
    and then Save the profile:
    FA0690nnnn440008.
Last time I tried this it seemed to cause the network to crash (it was months ago and from memory I think I might even have had to restart Cortex).

Are there any tips anyone can provide on doing this? Should the network be stopped or running, or doesn't it matter? Has Gumby got the commands right?!

    Thanks

What's your verdict on whether the network should be stopped or running?

I've been trying to find the original email with the instructions to check the packets, but haven't found it.

I think in general operations like this are best done with the network stopped, simply to eliminate the chance of Cortex doing something with the module in question.

It should be done with the network stopped since the basic save profile command saves a bunch of other parameters which, if network running, Cortex will have set to particular network running values.

The Save profile command has an error in it. It should be:

          FA90nnnn440008

The erroneous 06 probably crept into Gumby's message because this is how the packet appears in the log window after Cortex inserts a data length byte after the FA. The first packet is correct though.

            Thanks Karam.

Gumby, can you update the FAQ please? I'm sure I won't be the last to have a six year old throw a wobbler at bedtime because "he's scared of the sensor", no matter how logical the explanation!

              Progress update:

The LEDs have gone off in two of the rooms, so mission accomplished there. However, in our bedroom the LED is now on permanently! You can imagine the conversation with SWMBO...

              Any ideas?

                Try the following:

                FA90nnnn44000001

This will toggle the green LED once. On the assumption that it is not being then altered by the PIR state (i.e that you have successfully disabled the PIR link) then it should remain off. But then yet to figure out why it got into an ON state in the first place. Can you remember if there was someone in that room when you sent the disabling command?

Sorted, thanks. I think the room may have been occupied at the time, but can't be 100% certain.

                    Thanks chaps, FAQ updated.

Sorry about your six year old. Count yourself lucky that it wasn't a DRB with two scary RED eyes...

Guess this suggests we need to provide a more user friendly method for controlling this option. Will look into it.

                        Ha ha..

I just read through this thread as I /knew/ the LED question was on there somewhere... Before hitting page 2 I thought "If only it could be on the module properties dialog..... (just a suggestion, seems like a logical place for it)

... and actually, disabling the LED would probably be a useful thing to be able to do (easily) on all modules
... and being able to enable/disable network wide would be even nicer (ie for debugging something)
                        ...
                        Jon

An option has been provided to allow the turning on/off of the indicator LED in the Behaviour menu of the Motion sense object.
This is only for motion sensors as part of Idratek single pattress modules.
Update is in Cortex version 25.0.7.
