Try this place. If they don't offer what you are looking for then they may know who does. Have you tried you local Technical College.
Here are some more links, some are based in the US but offer distance learning courses but will obviously be biased towards US systems.
How will my online college courses work? You might have a fairly traditional view of what education looks like: sitting at a desk in a classroom, with numerous other students, and a teacher giving instructions at the front of the class. This scene, with slight variations, might be the normal experience for most American students through the end of high school. Modern technology, though, has made all sorts of new classroom and learning environments possible. For a look into what it might be like taking courses online, keep reading!

I'd start with the wiring guide here on Automated Home:
Then read all of the "My Automated Home" articles to get an understanding of what people are actually using automation for. It's a very broad subject and each person you speak to will undoubtedly have a slightly different view of what it means.
Clipsal run training courses reasonably regularly, follow the link at the bottom of this page to find out more:
The training you "need" depends on what you want to do. Do you want to become an installer and sell that service, install a system for yourself, or just specify something for someone else to install?

Tim.

As for tablet control, there's this recent article on iPad control:
Some of the xAP tools work in a browser window so you could run a remote desktop-type set-up where you view the relevant pages on a tablet PC, or script your own webpages and access them via the tablet's browser.
Or there's this, for only $45:
