    Default Main Breaker

    Jed,

If it is like the old type, I think instead of breakers there are fuses. Therefore, the fuse blows instead of the breaker tripping. And if you just want to turn it off just unscrew the fuse. Nevertheless, it is unusual to fine a board like that! I am sure with the new regs in the UK (not sure Iím in Ireland) if he does any changes he will need to put in a brand new board with breakers etc.

As far as I can remember, that is how it works but I could be wrong and I am sure someone will correct me if I am.

    Regards

    Brian

P.S. I am assuming your talking about the fuse board in his house!

This panel is the circuit breaker type. The panel has knock outs for the main-breaker. For some reason they were never installed. I just always was told they were needed, and other panels I've seen did have them.
I thought it was code required.................
