Help Needed for a newbie (is that the right spelling)?

Hi all you techy guys, and gals
I want to build a system based on a powerfull pentium4 PC, i want the system to be a meida centre- no problem hear as i think I can sort this out, also to include things like security controling camera's lights and door entry system, i would also like ultimatly to control the heating and lighting enviroment in the house whilst i am away, and maybe control it from intenet access.
is this asking to much from a single PC based system
can anyone point me in the right direction.

For a media centre have a look at MS's Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

Or as an alternative look at the web brick and its associated control program.

Completely based on CAT5e and ethernet ip protocols.

      www.o2m8.co.uk i think.

CQC is definitely a candidate in this area. It has the strong automation features already, and is a very modern, industrial strength, fully network distributed automation solution, with strong front and back end services, and media management is coming up in the next release.
