    Doorbell

we're fans of the Sound that Idratek have selected for Doorbell ...

it would be nice to be able to edit it down, to miss-out part of it ...

but, is there a way to do that, using standard tools that come with 'XP ...

    any pointers, please ... ?

Idratek uses standard wav files. The sound editor I'd recommend is Audacity - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. It's free and can do what you want.

Another 'lite' one is Wavosour. I'm not a seasoned user of either so just mention for passing interest

          +1 for audacity

I like to have a seasonal doorbell, though it does confuse the kids when I change it or if the sample they are used to comes on the radio or music player!

many years ago (when such things were affordable) I used to go by train from London to Bath on a Friday ... and, in those days, at Paddington, they would play classical piano pieces on the Tannoy - Rachmaninov, Beethoven, etc, etc - very far from hi-fi, but more than OK, & not unlike the Beethoven of Doorbell playing on an MFP ... more than once, I waited for the following train ...

the Doorbell piece is especially good, too, because it goes on & on & never gets insistent - very civilised !

how about a recording of a watch, like the one at the end of one of the spaghetti westerns, for an intruder alarm, too ...

              Chris,

Possibly misreading between the lines but you do know that for long melodies such as the Doorbell one that I think you are talking about, Cortex will stop the tune as soon as the door opens.

Just for fun I have a door knocking sound - a kind of ironic response to a door bell button press
